Quinn in rallying cry to Sunderland board
Sunderland legend and former club chairman Niall Quinn has urged Ellis Short to pick the next man to fill the vacant Sunderland manager position wisely. Quinn believes Sam Allardyce should be the man Short chooses, and it is understood that the former West Ham man is one at the top of the list at Sunderland.
As Sunderland’s former chairman and, before that, a prolific centre-forward, Quinn played a big part in selling the club to the American businessman before stepping down in 2012. Quinn is still a keen watcher of Sunderland and has been disappointed at the Black Cats’ continued lack of progression.
“I think the same old, same old, isn’t going to work,” Quinn said. “I think you need a manager to really change and revolutionise everything there. Big Sam might be radical in as much as he would totally change and revolutionise everything. Or if it was someone like Bob Bradley from America who hasn’t been in the Premier League before, he might do things different and that would get Sunderland going.”
Bradley and Allardyce are two of many names who have been linked with the Black Cats since Dick Advocaat’s departure from the club on Sunday. Nigel Pearson, Harry Redknapp and Sean Dyche have all been linked with the post too and it remains to be seen whether Ellis Short opts for the names linked or a total surprise package.
