Sunderland are reportedly nearing a move for Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff.
According to Italian reports , Sam Allardyce is closing in on the German, who has made just one appearance for Bayern this season.
The 25-year old has struggled to nail down a starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s side and was sent on loan to Schalke last season.
Physically imposing and possessing a knack for aerial dominance, Kirchhoff would appeal to be Sam Allardyce’s sort of player as he looks to sure up a leaky backline.
The Black Cats are currently four points from safety in the Premier League after Saturday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa.
And Kirchhoff could help Sunderland in their bid to avoid the drop. The former Mainz man is out of contract in the summer and is keen on seeing regular game-time – something he is more likely to get at Sunderland.
Sunderland have shipped 39 goals this season and Sam Allardyce will no doubt want to bolster his backline for the second half of the campaign.
