Recent reports arising that suggest Andre Ayew isn’t going anywhere means that Sam Allardyce has a lot of business to cover over the upcoming weeks.
Especially with Danny Graham looking like his loan move to Blackburn is close, along with Steven Fletcher’s possible departure, who could join new boys Jan Kirchhoff and Dame N’Doye on Wearside this Winter transfer window?
Read Sunderland take a look at the recent rumours you may not have heard and fill the gaps with who we believe the Mackems should make a move for in January.
1. Jordan Rhodes
This is a big call. The Scottish international has featured only 13 times for Rovers this season, and even though has managed to find the back of the net nine times, just doesn’t look like he wants to be in a Blackburn shirt. The 25-year-old has been linked with the Black Cats for a few seasons now, and I think with Danny Graham going one way that we should grasp the chance to bring the prolific Championship striker to Wearside, especially as a replacement for Fletcher.
2. Seydou Doumbia
The Ivory Coast international has spent the first half of the season on loan at Russian league side CSKA Moscow and scored eleven goals for the club, including some appearances in the Champions League. However, on his return to parent club Roma, the 28-year-old attacker has been told to find a new club, with Sunderland and Leicester supposedly very interested.
3. Islam Slimani
The Algerian has recently been quoted to be Manchester United’s key target for the January transfer window, however, I wouldn’t rule out a move for the 27-year-old. He has been a key figure for Sporting Lisbon this season, and alike Doumbia has European experience, however, he has a prominent place in the Lisbon squad, should he want to make the step into the BPL he will want first team football. With 14 goals in 17 league appearances, what a signing it could be.
4. Rey Manaj
Sunderland have been linked with a loan move for the Inter Milan youth striker, and with the Wearsiders supposedly being suspect to poor use of their Fair Play budget, could be a smart deal by boss Sam Allardyce. The Albanian would be nothing more than a squad player for the remainder of the season but definitely a safer option you wouldn’t blame the club for taking.
5. Aiden McGeady
Very risky move, but could be a fantastic cure for the case of the missing left-winger. Aiden McGeady hasn’t had the best of spells whilst at Everton, and the 29-year-old has only played once for the Premier League side this season, and that was in the League Cup. The reason this guy could be a great option is because he’ll cost no more than £4 million, and if given the chance could be exactly what we need in the Sunderland attack, especially after recent rumours of links with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.
