According to reports today from Sunderland are set to launch an audacious bid for Juventus and former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

Despite a successful campaign last season where he managed 15 goals in all competitions, Morata has fell down the pecking order at Juventus and a move to England could be on the horizon this month. Sunderland have emerged as outsiders in the race for the Spanish International, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and high-flying Leicester City all after the signature of the striker.

Despite scoring just three goals this season, Morata has undoubted quality and it would be considered a major coup for Sunderland if they could persuade Morata to join the relegation battle. Sam Allardyce told the Sunderland Echo that Black Cats fans can expect a shock signing this week, could it be Alvaro Morata?

“You’ve got to find out if that quality of player wants to come and join you, and ask the question. Sometimes, the circumstances will allow you to sign them, especially with the European Championships coming up this summer”
