The Mackems take a decent break away from the Premier League to recover themselves from the tough run of fixtures they somehow managed to perform in, including a massive three points in the last game against Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United.
However, over recent weeks injuries have cropped up and could hamper their run of form as they travel to high flying West Ham on the 27th of this month.
We’ve taken a look at the players in the physio room in the run-in to the next Premier League match-up:
Younes Kaboul
A key culprit for injuries in this Sunderland squad over the past few months. The Frenchman was due to return from a hamstring injury at the start of this month, however, an ankle injury in training may force him to miss the game at Upton Park.
Billy Jones
The right-back missed the game against Man United at the weekend through a hip labrum tear, which sounds much worse than it actually is. He could return for the next Premier League fixture should Yedlin not be picked ahead of him.
Jan Kirchhoff
The German has been a big character in this Sunderland side following his move in January (especially following his City performance) and was carried off with a minor hamstring injury in Saturday’s match. Possible return could be against Palace at home, if not, he should feature against Southampton.
Sebastian Larsson
Much alike Kaboul, Larsson has been on the sidelines for a number of months and was expected to be made available for the previous fixture. However, the Swede’s knee injury persists and he may, much alike the other players, have to wait until March to feature somewhere in Allardyce’s squad.
Duncan Watmore
It has been suggested the youngster will be on the long-term injury list rather than the short-term following a nasty ankle injury at Anfield a few weeks ago, and the only report that has been released for is that he could be back in ‘several weeks’.
Jeremain Lens
The Dutchman is suspected to be recovering from a hernia which may have to be operated on, however, the boss is confident the winger will be available for the game against the Hammers, only time will tell if he can make a return that quickly.
