This summer has been a transitional one for the Black Cats, with a change of manager delaying any potential transfer dealings on Wearside. The Black Cats are playing catch-up in the transfer window with several names linked daily.
In this rolling slideshow, you’ll be able to see all of the official Sunderland incoming transfers from this day onwards from the club.
We still have just under a month of the window to go, so it’s more than possible that Sunderland aren’t done just yet in their dealings…
Jason Denayer
The 21-year-old joined Sunderland on a season-long loan, becoming manager David Moyes’ eighth signing of the summer on deadline day.
Denayer joins the Black Cats with Champions League experience gained over the last two seasons, with Celtic and Galatasaray.
While playing for Celtic in the SPL he was crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year, after helping the Scottish giants to a league and cup double.
Didier Ndong
This lad is so unknown that Getty don’t have any images of him!
Sunderland completed the signing of the Gabon international Didier Ndong from French side Lorient, for a fee of 16 million euros, smashing their transfer record in the process.
Ndong joins the Black Cats on a five-year deal, becoming manager David Moyes’ seventh arrival of the summer.
A strong central midfielder, the talented young player began his career at Tunisian club CS Sfaxien, where he made 40 appearances for the club before signing for Lorient last summer where he was a regular last season.
He has also been a mainstay in the Gabon side in recent years, with 18 caps for his country after making his debut for the national team in 2012.
Javier Manquillo
Sunderland signed Atletico Madrid full-back Javier Manquillo on a season-long loan deal on August 15th. The 22-year-old Spaniard became David Moyes’ sixth signing of the summer after joining from the Spanish giants and solves the Black Cats’ problematic right-back slot.
Manquillo is no stranger to the Premier League having spent the 2014-15 season on loan with Liverpool, although that spell on Merseyside did not work out as planned. The right-footed player has represented his country at youth level up to under-21 and has both UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience with Atleti, and can also operate in both full-back positions.
He spent last season on loan with French side Marseille, gaining further European experience. The agreement is a season-long loan initially, which includes an option for Sunderland to make the move a permanent four-year deal after the completion of the loan for a reported fee of £13-million.
Steven Pienaar
David Moyes made South African veteran Steven Pienaar his fifth summer signing on August 19th. The midfielder joins the Black Cats on a one-year deal following a successful trial.
The 34-year-old was a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of last season, having made almost 200 appearances for the Merseysiders.
Pienaar will be reunited with David Moyes, the manager who brought him to England in 2007 from Borussia Dortmund.
After beginning his career with Ajax Cape Town in his homeland, Pienaar joined Ajax in Holland, where he won six titles.
From there he moved to Germany to join Dortmund before moving to Everton, whilst also enjoying a brief spell at Tottenham Hotspur before returning to Goodison Park.
Adnan Januzaj
The 21-year-old Belgium international became David Moyes’ fourth signing as Sunderland boss last week and is the highest profile player to arrive this summer.
Born in Brussels, Januzaj began his youth career with Anderlecht before moving to United, where he has since gone on to make 50 appearances for the first team, garnering both Premier League and UEFA Champions League experience.
The winger spent part of last season on loan with German giants Borussia Dortmund, gaining further experience in European competition and arrives on Wearside with a point to prove.
Paddy McNair
Paddy McNair joined in a double deal with Donald Love, with the 21-year-old costing a reported £4-million. Northern Ireland international McNair, who can operate in defence or midfield, has two seasons of Premier League experience at Old Trafford and heads to the Stadium of Light on the back of a successful UEFA Euro 2016 campaign with his country.
Despite a dissappointing debut, McNair is certainly one for the future.
Donald Love
Scotland under-21 international Love, who can play at full-back or in midfield, was Sunderland’s second signing for a reported fee of £1.5-million. He made his senior debut for Manchester United last season against the Black Cats, and went on to play in both the Premier League and UEFA Europa League while also enjoying a successful spell on loan at Wigan Athletic.
Papy Djilobodji
Papy Djilobodji was David Moyes’ first signing of the summer for £8-million, signing a four-year deal on Wearside. The Senegalese man can play across the back four and in defensive midfield, and adds versatility to the Sunderland squad.
The 27-year-old was on loan at Werder Bremen during the second half of last season, playing an integral part in helping the club to Bundesliga safety, including an 88th-minute winner on the final day to secure survival.
Having begun his career in Senegal with ASC Saloum, Djilobodji has played the majority of his football in France with Nantes, before heading to Stamford Bridge last summer.
