# Borini the Black Cat

Fabio Borini has made his long-awaited return to the Stadium of Light today, penning a four-year deal at Sunderland. A £8-million deal was agreed with Liverpool yesterday, with the player undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms today at the Academy of Light.

Borini becomes Sunderland’s 7th summer signing and will add to the club’s attacking threat. The Italian is known for his work ethic and clinical finishing, and will be hoping to add to his 10 goals his scored on Wearside during a successful loan spell in the 2013-14 season. Sunderland and Gus Poyet made Borini their primary target last summer and agreed a £14-million fee, but they were unable to persuade Borini to leave as he admirably sought to establish himself at Anfield.

Borini is delighted to be back on Wearside, [reportedly choosing Sunderland over the likes of Inter Milan, Watford and Fiorentina](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33795406). The Italian said: “I am delighted to be back at Sunderland. It is a club I know really well from my time here previously. It will be emotional for me to play at the Stadium of Light again and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch as a Sunderland player.”

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat is delighted with the signing of Borini and said: “Fabio is a great addition to the squad who will make our front line stronger. He can play in a number of attacking positions which is a huge benefit to the team.”
