# Team of the month: September

September was a difficult month for Sunderland, with the Black Cats crashing out of the Capital One Cup to familiar opponents Manchester City, whilst the club remained in the premier league relegation zone throughout. The month began with optimism, in a hard-fought defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur. The Black Cats were the best team throughout and were unlucky to be on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.

Next up for the Black Cats was Bournemouth, a fixture identified by most as the best chance for Sunderland to register their first win of the season. However, what followed was a lacklustre performance as 10-man Sunderland lost 2-0 on the south-coast. A mid-week 4-1 cup defeat to Manchester City didn’t do much to raise spirits on Wearside, with Dick Advocaat starting to feel the pressure in the dugout. The month concluded with Saturday’s trip to Old Trafford, where a decent first-half display counted for nothing as the Black Cats made in 4 defeats in 4 for September with a 3-0 defeat.

*I have the unenviable task of attempting to pick a team of the month for September, take a look:*
