Today saw a 4-2 defeat for Sunderland in what was a very disappointing start to the season for the Black Cats. Goals from Mahrez (2) and Vardy in the first-half killed the game off for what was supposed to be the bright start of the Dick Advocaat era.
Goals from Steven Fletcher and Jermain Defoe in the second half were bright spots of a poor team performance blighted with individual errors from many in red and white.
Debutants, Younes Kaboul and Jeremaine Lens will be hoping for better performances in the coming weeks. Whilst Costel Pantilimon will need to improve if he is to avoid losing his spot to former number one Vito Mannone.
Advocaat said post-match, “It was not only the result which scares me, but the performance, especially in the first half”. Judging by those comments from the general, changes will be made for next weeks home tie with Norwich City.
