According to reports today from L’Equipe, Sunderland are after Utrecht striker Sebastien Haller. The French under-21 international has been in prolific form since joining Utrecht in January, scoring 14 goals in just 19 appearances.
A fee of around £6-million is believed to be enough to see the tall striker join the Black Cats. Haller, 21, recently signed for Eredivisie outfit FC Utrecht on a permanent deal from Auxerre after an impressive loan spell last season. L’Equipe have also linked Championship side Brentford with the forward, but a move earlier in the summer failed to materialise.
Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat is eager to bolster his forward line after selling Connor Wickham to Crystal Palace this summer for £9-million. With just three strikers to choose from, Advocaat is looking around Europe’s top leagues for the ideal striker at a cut-price deal, with Sunderland under a strict budget this summer. Along with a deal for Haller, Sunderland are on the look out for reinforcements elsewhere, however, they do risk losing out to Inter Milan in the race for Fabio Borini according to Chris Young of The Sunderland Echo.
