Sunderland take on Swansea City this weekend in the premier league. Read Sunderland have a look at the brief history of this fixture and pick out the best and worst moments from a Sunderland perspective. In the recent history of this game since 2011, when Swansea gained promotion to the premier league, Sunderland have won just once, drawing five and losing twice.
Best: Sunderland 2-0 Swansea
There wasn’t a lot to choose from, however, Sunderland did record an impressive 2-0 victory of the Welsh side in 2012. Goals from Stephane Sessegnon and Craig Gardener were enough to see off the Swans. Sunderland were a very different team back then under Martin O’Neill, with only four players in the 18-man squad still on the books at Sunderland today.
Worst: Swansea 4-0 Sunderland
An awful day at the office, for what was Gus Poyet’s first game in charge at Sunderland. After a nightmare start to the season (sound familiar?) Sunderland had taken the action and changed their manager, in what was Poyet’s first game, Sunderland were completely outclassed from the first minute. An own-goal from recalled Phil Bardsley, summed up the afternoon, which was soon followed by a quick-fire double from Wilfried Bony and Jonathan De Guzman, who has today been linked with the Black Cats. Yet another own-goal, this time by Steven Fletcher put the game to bed in what was a wake-up call for new boss Gus Poyet.

Based on the previous encounters with Saturdays opponents, Sunderland will find it a tough test. Given the way the Wearsiders have begun this campaign it will be even tougher, with both teams looking for the win for different reasons.
