Dick Advocaat pulled no punches and made it evidently clear that he wanted to secure the services of three more players following the score-draw against Swansea at the Stadium of Light this weekend. Advocaat didn’t tolerate any transfer-related questions in his press conference on Friday, keeping his cards close to his chest. But recent reports suggest that there could be two names welcomed to the Black Cats before the Transfer Deadline.
Jason Denayer –
Today, the Sunderland Echo reported that Sunderland have made an enquiry for the 20-year-old centre-back following the recent defensive woes which have already occurred three games into the new campaign at Sunderland. Following the arrival of Nicolas Otamendi at Manchester City, Jason Denayer has been pushed further down the pecking order. The Belgian International enjoyed a very successful spell at Celtic last year, which saw him win the Young Player of the year award. With Vincent Kompany finding his form and the fresh adaptation of Eliaquim Mangala in the Premier League recently, even Otamendi will have to prove his worth to grab a role at centre-halve. Furthermore, with arguably Martin Demichelis the fourth preferred option, Denayer will surely be looking elsewhere for a first-team spot.
Jonathan De Guzman –
Strong reports have filtered out over Italy this weekend from Italian Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio that Sunderland have agreed a loan deal with Napoli to sign Dutch International midfielder Jonathan De Guzman – which would convert into a permanent signing for a reported €5.5 at the end of the season depending on Sunderland’s Premier League status.
The deal has of late lost its pace as reports suggest that De Guzman is taking his time to make the right move, as again reports imply there are other teams interested in his signature. Bournemouth are the fresh name in competition to sign the central attacking midfielder, but previously it is believed that Marseille pulled out a move to sign De Guzman, who was attracted to the potential transfer. Napoli kicked off their Seria A campaign with a 2-1 defeat away at Sassuolo, however, along with Eduardo Vargas who is on the verge of transferring to Hoffenheim, Jonathan De Guzman was frozen out of the squad as they are no longer part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans.
