No, it’s not Zlatan, however, Sunderland are close to securing a deal for Swedish striker Ola Toivonen. According to reports today by Sortiris Milios of SDNA, the Black Cats have agreed a deal with Stade Rennais for the forward and may join within the coming days.
The 29-year-old will meet with Dick Advocaat, with whom he worked during his stay at PSV, where he scored 61 goals in 139 appearances. Toivonen is 6ft 2 forward who is known for his power, finishing and heading ability. The former Malmo man is a full Swedish international and has attracted interest from the likes of Panathinaikos and Norwich City this summer. He has 9 international goals to his name during 43 caps, with his last goal coming in a friendly game against Iran in March 2015.
Toivonen will be linking up with international teammate Seb Larsson and would thrive off his set piece deliveries. The Black Cats have been in the market for a target man who will fit into Advocaat’s 4-3-3 system, and they appear to have finally got their man.
