With the Transfer Deadline imminently coming to a close, Read Sunderland take a look at three positions Sunderland and Dick Advocaat should be looking at to recruit as it draws to a closure. Advocaat admitted he was in the hunt for a striker and maybe one or two more positions before the deadline in his press conference on Friday, therefore these remain a definite possibility.
1. Left-Back –
It’s blatantly obvious and screams out to every single Sunderland fan, The Black Cats need a reliable, experienced left-back. I’m not saying Patrick van Aanholt isn’t the man for the future, but referring to previous form, it undeniably forces Advocaat to swoop for a left-back in the final few days of the deadline. The potential player to come in remains to be seen, but it is obvious that Sunderland fans are growing frustrated with PVA as his defensive positioning seems questionable to say the least, in comparative to any other full-back in the Premier League. Furthermore, with no other reliable back-up, surely a left-back is on Advocaat’s agenda.
2. Right-Back –
Just like van Aanholt, Billy Jones has also had a traumatic start to the season. Jones’ defensive duties haven’t been up to standard in recent games, and with Adam Matthews sidelined for six weeks, maybe a right-back is deep in Advocaat’s mind running up to the deadline. A player like DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur would be a possible transfer, with Trippier and Walker at the front of the queue for their full-back spot. Yedlin hasn’t had much time to prove himself at Spurs, so maybe looking for a loan move would be his best option.
3. Striker –
Sunderland have surprisingly looked very decent in front of goal this campaign, netting in each of their five games, however, they seem to be lacking a pacey outlet who can get in behind the defenders. Adrian Ramos has been the name linked recently with an estimated £7.2m price-tag. He has the ideal attributes for Sunderland and is the calibre of player Advocaat is looking to swoop for before Tuesday’s deadline. The outcome of the transfer remains to be seen, but it indicates to Sunderland fans what type of striker Advocaat is looking for.
