Arabian Gulf League-record breaker Moussa Sow has revealed he spurned Premier League sides Sunderland and West Ham United to make his ridiculous €17 million switch to Al Ahli.
The 29-year-old has signed a lucrative contract at Al Ahli, which surpasses that of former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan’s at Al Ain. Sow said of interest elsewhere at a packed press conference this week,
“I received a few offers from West Ham United and Sunderland,” Sow said. “But in the end, I decided to come to Al Ahli.
“I watched their matches in the AFC Champions League. I had some offers from the UAE during the last three or four years, but decided to come here because it’s the project I like.”
Wether Sunderland’s interest was genuine remains to be seen. Sow has been linked with Sunderland every transfer window since 2011, meaning that 4 successive managers a 2 director of football’s were interested in the Senegalese man, make of that what you will…
Sunderland clearly did not have the finances to sanction such a move this summer. It appears that Sow’s agent has done a remarkable job in getting his client such a lucrative move and has used clubs like Sunderland and West Ham as bait for wealthier clubs to make their move, fair play to him I guess!
