Chris Young of The Sunderland Echo is reporting that Tim Sherwood’s backroom staff at Aston Villa were keen spectators over England U21s and Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford in particular after their 1-0 victory over the USA U23s earlier this week.
Pickford has been performing well for Preston North End after since joining on a season-long loan back in August. Matching this with his impressive clean sheet against the USA in his first game for the under 21s. It doesn’t come as much a surprise that these performances have turned a few premier league heads.er
These under 21 matches gives all top clubs a good opportunity to scout the top young, home grown talent in the country today. Therefore, it cannot be said whether focus from clubs like Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspurs was particular in the direction of young Pickford.
Nevertheless, if Pickford continues to perform as he has, with the demand in young home grown talent coming at a premium, interest in the 6ft 1 keeper will continue to mount.
