During last years return to Wearside with Liverpool, Fabio Borini was greeted with roughly 50% of the crowd booing him, in what was a hostile atmosphere. For clear reasons, the Sunderland faithful were disappointed, with the Italian rejecting a £14-million move to the Black Cats after such a wonderful loan spell the season previous.
However, it’s impossible to blame him for just being naive. If he genuinely believed he could break into Liverpool’s squad, how can anyone blame him? In reality, if he had performed the way he did during his loan spell at Sunderland for Liverpool, it wouldn’t have been difficult for him. But with the former Roma man considering the fact that he would get a great deal of play time at Sunderland, and a year at Liverpool would be stained with substitute appearances, he should have realised the difficulty.
His return has been received fantastically with all supporters for one obvious reason, passion. Even though we are only four games into the season, passion is one thing the players haven’t shown. Yet all Fabio did on his loan was show passion. This is the perfect player the Black Cats could have signed and for a snip of last season’s price at just £8-million. Sunderland fans will be hoping that Borini can add to the nice little habit he has demonstrated of scoring against Newcastle come October.
