According to reports by Paul Fraser of the Chester-le-street Advertiser, Adam Johnson is set to return to training this week with Sunderland after missing the past 4 games with a shoulder injury.
Johnson picked up the injury during the opening day defeat against Leicester City, and the former Manchester City man’s return to fitness comes at a time when Sunderland have finally got the options manager Dick Advocaat had wanted in attack.
Advocaat has many attacking options available to him now, with Johson, Jeremain Lens, young Duncan Watmore and new signing Fabio Borini able to play naturally on the wings. Advocaat will attempt to work with all of those players this week in a bid to come up with the best front three to face Tottenham on Sunday at the Stadium of Light at 1:30 pm. Johnson will not be fit enough to face Spurs but should be given a chance either against Bournemouth or Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Jonathan De Guzman’s agent Fabio Parisi has spoken out about his client’s reluctance to move to England this summer after rejecting loan move to Sunderland and Bournemouth.
“During the transfer window a few opportunities emerged for De Guzman. The player made some assessments and did not see fit to accept the offers. He decided to remain at Napoli.”
Napoli head coach Maurizio Sarri did not want the Dutchman back and now he faces an uncertain few months having not even played a single minute so far this season in Serie A and looks to be frozen out in Italy.
