The situation surrounding Sunderland loanee Ricky Alvarez turned into an unwanted transfer saga over the summer. Sunderland inserted a clause that stated the purchase of the player if they were to their regain premier league. After an injury-hit campaign that saw Alvarez make just thirteen appearances, the club was reluctant to commit to such clause.
Top-flight football was secured on Wearside for another year resulting in complications between Ricky Alverez’s parent and current club. After a long-standing disagreement between his parent club Inter Milan and Sunderland the player now finds himself contracted to neither.

The Argentine’s quality remains undisputed, with his performance in red and white against Fulham in the FA Cup a particular highlight. His physicality was where the problems lay along with his attitude when it comes to playing in one of the world’s most demanding and physical league.
It is clubs in his home country that are first to show any real intent on signing the player. San Lorenzo are thought to have agreed provisional terms and are now awaiting a decision for FIFA to see if they can pursue the transfer. With the transfer window over in Argentina closing on Friday, this is a deal they would like to wrap up swiftly. FIFA have had the case with them for several weeks now and are expected to make the decision on Alvarez imminently.
If, as expected, the deal does go through, hopefully, the former Inter Milan man can put behind the troubles of last season and push on in his home country.
