No Sunderland fan want’s to see a repeat of the latest few previous seasons. The obvious main goal is to remain in the Premier League, however, if Sunderland managed to maintain their Premier League status comfortably by finishing mid table, by being mathematically safe with a number of games to go. In order to do have a successful season, there are a number of players that will play a main role.
5. Sebastian Coates
Coates was one of the main reasons that Sunderland continue to play in the Premier League this season. His connection with John O’Shea and performances in the draw against Arsenal and in the 2-0 victory away at Everton were fantastic.
4. Lee Cattermole
Cattermole leading the midfield, putting in key tackles and playing superb passes makes him pivotal for Sunderland. He has been off the pace so far this season but can hopefully get back to his best.
3. Yann M’Vila
The Frenchman and Cattermole sitting in midfield together will be key for Sunderland this season. Forming a strong defensive force in front of the defence, with M’Vila’s driving power going forward will help to dry up conceding goals, as well as scoring some of our own.
2. Jeremain Lens
Lens has already produced some moments of flair, in getting past players and delivering the ball into the box. With assists already to his name, continuing in this fashion will excite the Sunderland faithful, and also provide the forwards with more scoring chances.
1. Jermain Defoe
Everyone is aware of Defoe’s presence in front of goal. However, as of late he has seemed a yard or so off the pace. With good play for his goal against Leicester and a good finish against Swansea, hopefully, he will be back to the goalscorer we all know.
