Inter Milan Director of Football Piero Ausilio has spoken out regarding the situation surrounding midfielder Ricky Alvarez.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, he described the situation stating “I find it absurd to have to go to FIFA on something so simple and obvious. FIFA will decide: with Sunderland there is a very clear agreement that says it all.”
Argentinian international Alvarez is now in limbo and awaits a decision from football world’s governing body FIFA and their arbitration team.
Last summer Sunderland agreed a deal with Italian giants Inter to take the 27-year-old on a season-long deal, a deal which included a £8m permanent transfer clause that Sunderland failed to activate.
Sunderland were bound by the terms of the agreement to sign the player should the club remain in the Premier League following the season-long loan.
The deal was called off by Sunderland following Inter’s decision to delay granting knee surgery for Alvarez, a decision which restricted the player to 17 appearances for the club last season.
Argentinian club San Lorenzo agreed personal terms with Alvarez, who has appealed to FIFA to become a free agent, offering the player a way out of this situation.
FIFA have denied the player the chance to join San Lorenzo as his situation in Europe is still being clarified.
