According to Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland winger Will Buckley, with the deal expected to go through next week.
Buckley is moving to Elland Road on a 93-day emergency loan and is expected to train with the club this week, however, he will not sign in time for Sunday’s game at Middlesbrough, with Leeds holding off until their clash with Birmingham City on October 3rd to ensure that Buckley is available up to and beyond the start of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old, who has much experience of the Championship after spells with Watford and Brighton, is out of favour under Dick Advocaat at Sunderland and was made available by the Wearside club during the recent transfer window. Buckley cost Sunderland £2.5-million when Gus Poyet signed him last summer from Brighton, but apart from a derby assist against Newcastle, the winger has failed to make the grade in the premier league.
Leeds enquired about him on more than one occasion and held talks about him in the final week of the summer window,, but their interest was cut short by Buckley’s wages. Now the former Watford man will make a temporary loan move in the hope that his performances can secure a permanent transfer to Leeds or elsewhere in January.
