Adam Johnson could be set to make a return against his former club Manchester City in the Capital One Cup this evening.
Manager Dick Advocaat told the Sunderland Echo that changes will be made to the side “We had some ideas about our strongest team, but let’s wait and see how it comes in the next few weeks. We still have to find out what the best XI is. I know eight or nine, but you can only find out the right balance during the games.”
The midfielder made his comeback to the Sunderland side that lost 2-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday. Johnson has been out of action for the last month with a dislocated shoulder.
Right-back Billy Jones will be rested as loan signing DeAndre Yedlin is in line to make his debut for the club. Younes Kaboul will miss tonight’s tie through suspension, but John O’Shea is back from an illness.
