Fabio Borini may have earned himself another chance to lead the attack for Sunderland after an impressive display in our recent 4-1 loss to Manchester City last night, according to Chris Young of the Sunderland Echo.
On a night of few positives, Borini looked full of energy and was very unlucky to have his first goal of the season ruled out for a harsh decision by Roger East. Borini will be hopeful he will start in the same position at Old Trafford on Saturday as Sunderland look for their first win of the season.
Advocaat dropped a big clue after the game that Borini will be given another chance as the lone striker when he said: “I wanted to see Borini in the middle.
“I will think about whether he stays there. Everyone deserves another chance, not just one.”
Although Sunderland caused most of their own problems last night, we played some good attacking football. The decision to play Mannone after four months out of the first team was a mistake by Advocaat but if we can defend better the chances for Borini will start to come.
The supporting players, Lens, Toivonen and Johnson, will all be looking to supply the Italian striker and the fans will be hoping the attacking positives can be matched by some good defending at the other end this weekend.
