SAccording to Chris Young of the Sunderland Echo, Dick Advocaat is considering changing his system, with the team rock-bottom of the premier league and winless.
Advocaat is a keen admirer of the 4-3-3 system and persisted with the set-up since arriving on Wearside, however, with the players at his disposal the Dutchman is considering altering to suit his squad. Sunderland have shipped an alarming 23 goals in nine games in all competitions and put an insignificant two points on the board in seven league matches. Advocaat said:
“(Fabio) Borini and (Jermain) Defoe have struggled as lone strikers, that’s correct. We definitely have to look at a change of formation. Now we have to ask do we go on with 4-3-3 or do we have to find another solution? Yes, we have to think about the way we are playing to find a way to be more successful than we have so far. If we have an idea about how to do that, you have to change it. The next seven games until the end of November are very important.”
Advocaat has stated today of his disappointment at his summer signings so far and denied that Lee Congerton and himself signed players to fit into his 4-3-3 system.
“No, we just signed players who were available,”
The Black Cats boss has also indicated today that he may be willing to make a switch at left back, with Patrick Van Aanholt struggling this season and deadline day capture DeAndre Yedlin waiting in the wings.
“He [Yedlin] has been here for a week and he’s done OK, I have to think about it, but if I change it, I have to put a right-sided player in there who has never played at left-back. We think the same way as supporters. But to do it is different.”
Sunderland entertain West Ham this weekend as they look to change their fortunes in search of their first win. Dick Advocaat is still perplexed as to why Sunderland continue to have troubles and has stated that he will work hard to turn the Black Cats’ season around.
“Do we have to play more tight, and play that way? We have to really think what we have to do.”
