Craig Hope of the Daily Mail is reporting today that Sunderland sporting director Lee Congerton has quit the club.
He has only been in the job 18 months, and the former Chelsea scout was brought in to rebuild the club. However, reports suggest he departed after becoming unhappy with ‘financial restraints’ he endured and that managers, such as Gus Poyet, could bring in their own players who Congerton felt were not of a good enough standard. This follows the news that Dick Advocaat is set to depart the club in the coming days, which will leave the plans of chairman Ellis Short in tatters. The Black Cats currently sit bottom of the table, with only two points to their name and yet to win a game. No team in the league have lost more games so far this season.
Sunderland’s next fixture is against high-flying West Ham, who have pulled off victories against the like of Manchester City and Arsenal so far this season, and it’s believed by many that a defeat at home to them could be the last straw.
