Could Sunderland be making an approach for current Real Sociedad manager David Moyes? Reports from the BBC suggest he is one of the leading contenders to replace Dick Advocaat after the Dutch coach left yesterday.
Moyes, who had a successful tenure at Everton, will be looking to win over some doubters in world football after his dreadful spell at Manchester United and what a challenge this would be to try and keep Sunderland in the Premier league this season.
Sunderland are looking to name their new manager as soon as possible and use the international break as a perfect opportunity to settle into the area and introduce their new coaching and match routines. Moyes has been rumoured to other English clubs in the past so there may be some truth in the reports from the BBC.
Other reports, which seem wide of the mark, have linked Brendan Rodgers to the Sunderland job but this seems very unrealistic given he has just left Liverpool on the same weekend as Advocaat stepped down.
The Sunderland faithful are all hoping a potential meeting with Sam Allardyce on Wednesday will lead to the former black cats’ player linking up with Ellis Short as he will bring stability to a fragile defence and bring back some fighting qualities that have been missing over the past eight games.
However, the links and rumours will continue to gain momentum but with Real Sociedad struggling in La Liga, his reputation in Spain has not really improved after he left Old Trafford. Sunderland would be wise to ignore Moyes and focus on bringing in Allardyce to steady the ship or even in the worse case scenario help Sunderland come back up if relegation were to happen.
