After Dick Advocaat walked from The Stadium of Light, Sunderland are in search of a new manager. Advocaat left Sunderland following their 2-2 draw at home with Allardyce’s former club West Ham, stating that a relegation scrap “isn’t [his] cup of tea”. The Black Cats are currently in the relegation zone, and have the international break to hopefully find a successor that will enable Sunderland are still in the top flight next season.
After being out of work since leaving West Ham in the summer, Allardyce was always going to be near the top of Ellis Short’s wish list. It is rumoured that Allardyce is in talks with Sunderland, however, there are discussions under way due to Allardyce’s budget demand.

Big Sam has been previously been a player and a coach at Sunderland and is believed to fancy the return, especially since his Newcastle Managerial days. But Short and Allardyce are struggling to come to an arrangement, with Allardyce wanting a large transfer kitty for January, to try and improve the current under-performing side. Short believes that having already spent £30-million in the summer, he’s done enough.
Big Sam believes that he has the upper hand over Ellis Short, and can therefore, get his wishes. With the new TV deal beginning next season, it is crucial for The Black Cats to remain a top-flight club, due to the huge amount of money coming to all Premier League clubs next season. Sunderland fans will happily forget the Big Sam used to manage The Magpies, and will welcome his arrival at The Stadium of Light if agreements are reached.
