Former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has been offered the vacant job at Sunderland, with the club’s board confident that’ll he accept, according to The Mirror.
Black Cats’ sporting director Lee Congerton has held discussions with the Allardyce about taking the post at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season in a bid to keep the club in the Premier League under a well experienced manager.
Despite the club happy to offer the role on a more long-term basis, the former Newcastle United boss is only considering taking the role on in the short-term.

After only departing from Upton Park last season, Allardyce has admitted to wanting a longer break before returning to football.
However, those close to the manager believe that if he is offered the right terms, he would be willing to return.
Sunderland, who are without a win in this Premier League season and sitting dead bottom in the table, are willing to throw money at the Englishman in a bid to persuade him to take the role on.
They believe that they can get their man, and that man can help them retain their Premier League status for the future.
