Clive Hetherington of the Daily Star is reporting that newly-appointed Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is targeting current and former West Ham players as he looks to rebuild his squad.
In his sights for tightening up his defence is James Tomkins. The 26-year-old centre-back is expected to be available for a fee in the region of £10m, with the Hammers reluctant to sell the Englishman who has featured in all but one of West Ham’s league games so far this season.
Allardyce isn’t stopping there when it comes to West Ham targets however. In midfield, he is looking into the possibility of signing free agents Kevin Nolan and Morgan Amalfitano. Nolan, who he also managed during his time as manager of both Newcastle and Bolton, was released by West Ham earlier this year.
Nolan made 157 appearances and captained the Hammers during his four-year spell at the club. Amalfitano made 32 appearances, however, he left the club after being frozen out of the first-team following an argument with boss Slaven Bilic.
