Sam Allardyce is set to appoint his new assistant manager soon – but it’s not Peter Reid!
The newly appointed Black Cats boss is expected to make the announcement this week, with a number of candidates in the frame, but he won’t be selecting Peter Reid according to the Sunderland Echo.
Other names who have been mooted are Phil Brown and Neil McDonald – both of which have worked alongside ‘Big Sam’ before.

Southend insist they’ve not been contacted by Sunderland for the services of Brown. McDonald could leave Blackpool should he be offered the position as they struggle in League One.
The North East club are hoping the new member of staff will be in place before their game with West Brom this weekend.
Allardyce joined Sunderland last week with them struggling in 19th place in the league. They’re yet to win a game this season and have just three draws to show for their efforts under Dick Advocaat.
