According to ESPN, Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has identified QPR frontman Charlie Austin as his primary target this January. The 26-year-old, who scored an astonishing 18 goals in his debut premier league season last year, has scored seven goals in nine appearances this term in the championship and is set to be on many clubs’ radar when the transfer window reopens in January.
By the time January comes along, QPR may be amongst the promotion hopefuls in the Championship. However, they may not be too, and with Charlie Auston entering the final 6 months of his deal, any club can try to sign the striker on a Bosman ruling. Sunderland and Allardyce appear to be tempted to test Rangers resolve with a low offer for the stalwart to steal him in January from a host of clubs who will no doubt be interested in Austin’s services.
The signing of Austin would signal Sunderland’s intent to progress under Allardyce with the Englishman capable of single-handedly firing Sunderland to safety.
