Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce revealed that his squad will be working on their confidence ahead of the tyne-wear derby this weekend.
Allardyce will take charge of his first game as Sunderland boss this weekend when his side come up against fierce rivals Newcastle United this weekend.
The wear-side club are the only team in England’s top four divisions without a league win, but Allardyce is looking to rectify that against his former club.
After only a week with his squad, the new Sunderland manager knows that his side has been stripped of all their confidence after such an awful start to the season.
There was no result at the end at West Brom and of course, that’s a confidence drainer for our players,” said Allardyce. “It doesn’t matter how we’ve lost or why we’ve lost. “We haven’t got any more points on the board, so I have to spend a good amount of time rebuilding their confidence.”
Former Bolton manager, Sam Allardyce had a steady season with London club West Ham last season, and also took the Hammers to Europe, despite finishing 12th.
He will be looking this season, to get the Black Cats out of the drop zone, and ultimately avoid relegation at the end of the season.
