Sam Allardyce has provided an injury update on a number of Sunderland players after the Black Cats’ win over neighbours Newcastle.
The centre-back pairing that started the derby, consisting of John O’Shea and Younes Kaboul, both picked up issues during the 3-0 win.

O’Shea had a hamstring injury which forced him off the field – replaced by Coates. Kaboul suffered a groin issue in the final stages of the match.
As well as those two, Ola Toivonen was also injured in the first half of the game with a groin problem.
He was replaced by Jermain Defoe, a change that arguably helped effect the outcome of the game.
Allardyce spoke to the media regarding the above players.
That was the only downside from Sunday. I think John O’Shea’s hamstring is settling down and Younes Kaboul felt his groin towards the end of the game so we will wait to see how that is.
Ola did the same groin he did on international duty which is a bit of a concern. It’s more of a concern when it’s a reoccurring injury. How’s it happened? Why’s it happened? Does it lie somewhere else? The medical staff have to oversee that and get these lads fit as quickly as possible.

Also absent from Sunday’s win was Fabio Borini. The manager had some positive news regarding the Italian’s comeback.
Fabio’s had an injection in the ankle to just free the final little bit of tightness he’s got in there, and hopefully the jab he’s had will free him up to start training on Friday back with the lads.
Sunderland travel to Everton this weekend, with Allardyce looking to win two games in two.
