October only hosted 3 games for the Black Cats due to the international break, however, it wasn’t a quiet one, as it featured two different managers conducting in the dugouts alongside the Wear/Tyne derby. Yet still no massive movements in our league position, moving up to 18th over the course of the month questions how important this weekend’s game at Everton could be to gain some momentum.
Our first game of October under Dick Advocaat hosted West Ham at the Stadium of Light. With the Hammers’ away form thus far, you would have expected nothing less than an away win, however, we held our own for a 2-2 draw. Our second game of the month and our only away game was the trip to the Hawthorns, and was our only defeat of the month, falling to a questionable Saido Berahino goal. However, the highlight of the month for the Mackems was undoubtedly the 3-0 victory over Newcastle, their first win of the season and bragging rights for the 6th time in a row.
