Sam Allardyce wants Sunderland hottest prospect Duncan Watmore to pen a new deal. Watmore’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, but Allardyce wants that changed.
Despite declaring last week that all contracts will be decided when Sunderland’s Premier League status for next season is decided, it seems Allardyce has made Watmore the exception. Watmore entered the game against Everton when the result was all but assured at 5-2 to the hosts, but impressed during his cameo.
While speaking to the Echo, Allardyce praised Duncan and spoke about his contract situation.
Duncan Watmore is one we’d like to resolve as soon as possible. He is a different case to the others because he’s a young player and he’s one who down the line, you would see making a big contribution to the first team. He’s one you would see becoming a first-team regular.

Watmore seemed to become out of favour under Advocaat, despite the youngster having demands from the fans to be a more regular feature. Watmore, last season’s Barclays Under 21 Premier League Player of the Season, has only featured in 4 league games so far this season, despite scoring against Norwich and Exeter in the Capital One Cup.
Watmore’s contract discussions were due to take place last month, but with the departure of Advocaat and the assignment of Allardyce, those talks were put on hold. Watmore is thought to be eager to continue his Sunderland career, plus the promotion of Robbie Stockdale to the first team will surely be a plus to Watmore.
