Sunderland loanee Jordan Pickford has replicated his past few performances recently, keeping a fifth clean sheet against Nottingham Forest at Deepdale.
Pickford, who has recently been hailed for his England U21 performances, continued to impress England’s biggest clubs for the struggling Preston Tuesday night in their 1-0 victory. Simon Grayson praised the 21-year-old for his recent performances:
“It’s a fantastic achievement to get five clean sheets on the trot. To do it in any league takes some doing but at this level with the players we’ve been against. There’s a huge amount of credit to the lads, as individuals and as a team”
The coaches on Wearside have been hailing the youngster to be the future number 1 for many years now, and looking at him recently it could be sooner rather than later.
This great run of form follows the phenomenal assist he will never forget for the England Under 21’s against Kazakhstan mid-October, and even Big Sam has decided to see the in-form keeper for himself.
Much like Duncan Watmore, Jordan Pickford has been on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in England, and it could be a hard job keeping hold of the England U21’s in the coming years, maybe even months.
Pickford is due to spend the rest of the season on loan at Preston, although there is understood to be provision in the loan deal for Sunderland to recall him in January if they wish.
It’s fair to say in recent weeks that Costel and Vito haven’t exactly stepped up to the standards we usually have for goalkeepers over recent years, will Pickford’s loan be short lived with the recent form of the first team keepers?
