Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce believes that he is better off attempting to get the ‘maximum’ out of his squad for the remainder of the season, rather than trying to get lucky and sign someone big in January.
With the January transfer window looming ever close, the Black Cats will more than likely head into the market in search of fresh faces, with work going on behind the scenes on potential arrivals.
The only player I’ve said I’m selling at the moment is Liam Bridcutt, the rest have to join the fight.
However, former West Ham boss Allardyce knows full well that he can’t wait upon the transfer window to improve his squad and in the mean time needs to get the most out of the players that he currently has to his possession.

The manager confirmed that the only departure he has spoken of is that of Liam Bridcutt, with Leeds, Reading and Cardiff all interested in taking the midfielder on loan.
Before the game against Crystal Palace on Monday evening, a fixture the visitors won 0-1, Defoe, who won the game for Allardyce’s side, had been linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light. However, the English striker started for his time last night, subsequently scoring the only goal of the game.
I read that I was selling him – that’s the trouble with the window, I’m selling everyone! Who knows what we’re going to do down the line in January, I don’t know yet – I haven’t spoken to Ellis [Short] yet. I’m trying to get the maximum out of these players, because that’s much easier for me than going out in the transfer window in January.
