Sunderland secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace last night to bring themselves within a point of safety and take them up to 18th place in the league.
Jermaine Defoe struck 10 minutes from time in London to bring all three points back to Wearside after a mix-up in the Palace defence between Scott Dann and Wayne Hennessey. Sunderland were forced to defend for the majority of the game with Palace putting the back five under serious pressure. However, the Black Cats stayed resilient and hung on to claim a vital three points, claiming their first away win of the season and just their second clean sheet.
