Can Sunderland Sink The Gunners While They’re Down?

Sunderland’s weekend fixture sees them take on fourth place Arsenal at the Emirates, and it’s definitely one of the better times to be travelling to a London side.

The Mackems recorded their first away win of the season against high-flying Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, in the same week as beating a strong and in-form Stoke side at home. With their first consecutive wins of the season, they travel to a team who has only picked up two out of a possible nine points in their last three Premier League games. Definitely a meeting which is somewhat out of sort.

However, the odds will be in Arsenal’s favour as the North East side has been unable to pick up three points at the London side for 32 years. In 16 visits, the Wearsiders have tallied five draws and lost the other eleven, and the manager is ready to end the streak, writes the Sunderland Echo

“If we got a victory at Arsenal, then it would be one of the biggest results Sunderland have ever achieved.”

Four out of Sunderland’s last seven visits to North London have concluded in a stalemate, including a massive point in May to help secure Premier League survival. Allardyce did admit:

“I wouldn’t be too disappointed in that result!” “Even though Arsenal have got a couple of injuries and slipped up at West Brom and Norwich, that wasn’t at the Emirates. “At home, they’re a major force.”
