Former Sunderland loanee Ricky Alvarez looks set to finally secure a move following a nightmare end to 2015 for the Argentinian. According to David Amoyal of Gianluca Di Marzio, Alvarez is set to return to Italy and sign for Serie A giants Sampdoria.
The situation surrounding Sunderland loanee Ricky Alvarez turned into an unwanted transfer saga over the summer. Sunderland inserted a clause that stated the purchase of the player if they were to their regain premier league. After an injury-hit campaign that saw Alvarez make just thirteen appearances, the club was reluctant to commit to such clause.
Top-flight football was secured on Wearside for another year, resulting in complications between Ricky Alverez’s parent and current club. After a long-standing disagreement between FIFA, his parent club Inter Milan and Sunderland the player has found himself contracted to neither over the past few months.

The Argentine’s quality remains undisputed, with his performance in red and white against Fulham in the FA Cup last term a particular highlight. His physicality was where the problems lay along with his attitude when it comes to playing in one of the world’s most demanding and physical league.
A move back to Serie A will hopefully get Alvarez’s stalling career back on track and if he can replicate the form that earned him a senior Argentine cap, then it may turn out to be a huge opportunity missed by Sunderland this summer. But before the former Inter player officially join’s the Sampdoria squad, he must pass a thorough medical which is currently taking place in Italy.
