Sunderland’s last game of 2015 saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, a game in which it really could have gone differently for the Mackems if they finished their chances early, and it would have all been thanks to a fantastic Vito Mannone on a cold night at the SoL.
Defoe and Borini with the highlighted chances for the Black Cats before Vito was called strongly into action, and from there it wasn’t the best of nights for the home side.
The first game in Sunderland’s 2016 chapter see’s them take on 20th place Aston Villa, a game which really could decide who will be heading to the Championship as both teams are struggling massively entering the mid-season transfer window.
