It’s a brand new year, and maybe even a brand new Sunderland after the Mackems’ emphatic win over bottom of the league Aston Villa on Saturday.
Patrick Van Aanholt was to be thanked for the half-time lead after his deflected effort from 25-yards found it’s way past Brad Guzan. Villa, however, managed to punish the Black Cats on the counter attack through Gil’s acrobatic effort with under 30 minutes on the clock. Thankfully, Jermain Defoe’s brace in the final minutes of the game saw Sunderland record their third victory at the SoL this season.
