Reports have been emerging in the last couple of days that a number of Championship sides have been monitoring the situation of Sunderland forward Danny Graham. The Englishman has had a pretty tough spell at the Stadium of Light, only netting 1 goal in his 39 appearances, albeit many of those were off the substitute’s bench. Graham’s contract runs out in the summer and Allardyce is believed to be looking to sell this window in attempt to recoup a slight margin of the £4m which was spent on his signature.
Sunderland fans were willing to be patient with Graham due to his previous record at Swansea, scoring 21 in 62 games. The Englishman certainly did not lack with effort in Sunderland colours, but his lack of goals became a big problem and his future has been in doubt ever since.
It seemed that Leeds and Middlesbrough were looking to sign the 30-year-old, however, it now looks as if Blackburn Rovers are now the front-runners, as Chris Young from the Sunderland Echo tweeted ‘Sounds like there’s mileage in speculation over Blackburn interest in Danny Graham’.
Blackburn Rovers may be looking for a replacement for striker Jordan Rhodes who is seemingly on the radar of Championship leaders Middlesbrough for around the region of £10m – so Paul Lambert wouldn’t be short on cash if he wanted to secure the signature of the Sunderland forward.
Blackburn have not registered a goal in their previous 4 games, therefore, the deal is understandable and could prove to be a catalyst for Danny Graham to get his career back on track.
