Defoe Out-Performing League’s Top Strikers

Recent statistics show the 33-year-old is outperforming the likes of Aguero and Kane regarding shot accuracy so far in the 2015/16 season, writes The Chronicle Live.

Defoe helped Sunderland to a win against basement club Aston Villa in a 3-1 victory at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, contributing to two of the goals himself, bringing his overall tally to 134 BPL career goals.

His fantastic career in the Premier League puts him 11th on the all-time list of BPL goalscorer’s, with Robin Van Persie just 10 goals away.

This season’s most impressive statistic, however, is that out of all attacker’s in the top flight to have more than 20 attempts on goal, Defoe dominates the percentages with an imposing 70.83%.

Raheem Sterling falls in second with a respectable 66.67%, meaning the experienced striker’s deadly accuracy gives him a big advantage over the City player regarding the statistics.

The England international has scored 9 goals in his 17 appearances for Sunderland this season, and will be hoping to fire the Mackems to Premier League safety this season after his fantastic brace against struggling Villa.

Sunderland’s next game sees them travel to the Emirates for the second time in the space of a month, this time in a tough FA Cup draw. Let’s hope Defoe can be as clinical in the cup as he has been in the league.
