Jeremain Lens has hit out at the media following speculation of a move away this transfer window, as he is fully content at Sunderland now he has regained his first team spot, writes the Sunderland Echo.
The Dutch attacker found himself on the bench following the managerial appointment of Sam Allardyce, and struggled to find a way into the starting XI. The Mackems signed Lens for £8 million in the Summer transfer window, and although has featured in 15 league games for the Wearsiders this season, didn’t seem content under the new boss.
Lens supposedly refused to participate in the post-match warm down after their defeat to Watford in December, of where he was dropped from the squad and fined two weeks wages by the club.

The 28 year-old has featured in a number 10 role over the last three games, and has been impressing the fans and boss alike, especially after his opener against Arsenal in the FA Cup. Defeat at Tottenham was the first of three Lens didn’t really show up in, yet it’s hard to see him losing his spot any time soon.
Lens addressed claims of him leaving by saying:
“I never spoke about leaving. It’s the media and all the things around me. “We will see what happens. I’m a Sunderland player and I’m focused on Sunderland. “I’m happy that I’m playing, but I wasn’t with the result at Spurs. “Let’s hope I’m playing in the next game and we can get a good result.
The Black Cats host impressive Bournemouth this weekend, in what is a crucial game for the home side. Lens spoke about the fatigue of the players and how it affected the squad after the opening hour:
“I can speak for myself and I was very tired after 70 minutes, and I think maybe some of the other players were as well.
“But, in such big games, you need to be cleverer. “We know that we need to keep winning games. “We need to forget about the Tottenham game and think about the next one against Bournemouth.”
