According to The Sunderland Echo, full-back Adam Matthews could already be on his way out of the Stadium of Light, only 6 months after joining The Black Cats. Matthews joined Sunderland for £2 million during the Summer but has already become surplus to requirements at The Stadium of Light.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is looking to get rid of players from his squad in order to earn money to bring in players who can help change the clubs fortunes. Costel Pantilimon and Danny Graham have already left the club and it looks likely that Adam Matthews will follow them out the exit, as it is reported that 2 Championship clubs are interested in the full-back’s signature.
Matthews has only made one appearance since joining Sunderland from Celtic and will need to get more regular football under his belt if he stands any chance of breaking into Chris Coleman’s Wales Euro 2016 side. So perhaps a move to the Championship will benefit all parties.
