Allardyce: Gomez Can Leave This January

The Chronicle Live reports that Sam Allardyce would allow Jordi Gomez to leave Wearside this January in order for him to be a first team regular.

The 30 year-old, who started his career at Barcelona, was signed by Gus Poyet on a 3 year contract in 2014 after his contract ran out at then Championship outfit Wigan Athletic, and has appeared 39 times for the Black Cats whilst scoring 6 goals.

However, he has only started three times under the new boss, and is supposedly the next man to be leaving the North-East in order for us to reshape and hopefully secure our Premier League survival.

Allardyce has spoke about the experienced midfielder this week:

Jordi Gomez is not playing as often as he would like so I think, yes, he could move on. There’d be no problem with us if Jordi wanted to find more regular first team football – we both agree in that department, so that would be the right thing to do for both of us.

The Spanish midfielder could follow Danny Graham, Will Buckley and Liam Bridcutt on a loan deal to a Championship side, or a permanent move away alike Romanian stopper Costel Pantilimon, who moved to Watford for an undisclosed fee last week.

Adam Matthews and Valentin Roberge are also on Sunderland’s list of players to move on this January as Allardyce aims to free up the clubs high wage budget.

It’s fair to say he’s been one of Sunderland’s better signings over the last few years, considering he cost us nothing, however it seems club and player agree that it is maybe time to move on.
