Fletcher Aims To Spark Celtic Move

The Mirror reports that Scottish international Steven Fletcher could be set to move to his boyhood team Celtic instead of taking a mega money contract in China.

It is understood that the Sunderland striker is attracting multiple teams due to his current status on Wearside, and has supposedly been offered two contracts from Chinese sides Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R & F, both contracts adding £3 million a year to his current contract at the Premier League side. The 28-year old’s four-year contract ends this Summer, and you’d expect Sam Allardyce to be open to his move away due to his high wages.

A source told the Mirror:

Steven wants to move to Celtic. The offers on the table from China are huge but Celtic believe they can come up with an attractive deal.

Fletcher is Sunderland’s most expensive signing ever after he moved to the North East from Wolves in 2012 for £12 million, and now he could be returning to Scotland for the first time since playing for Hibernian from 2004 to 2009.

The attacker has appeared 101 times in a Sunderland shirt, with all 23 of his goals coming in the league, but it’s fair to say his time is almost up, with Jermain Defoe being the star up top over recent weeks, along with Dame N’Doye joining the squad over recent weeks to add to the much-needed firepower which we just haven’t seen from Fletcher enough this season.
