Sunderland yesterday drew a game that the Black Cats realistically had to win as the game with AFC Bournemouth ended 1-1. Benik Afobe got goalside of John O’Shea to steer a weak header past Vito Mannone, although the goalkeeper really should have done better.
Patrick Van Aanholt scored for the fourth game in a row to rescue a point for Sunderland in first half stoppage time. The point leaves Sunderland three points adrift of safety, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool the next three games for Sunderland.
